About Nicole

I am interested in how free-living microbes and mycorrhizal fungi affect trees in the face of drought. Specifically, I aim to see whether microbes are adapting, acclimating, or undergoing community shifts in response to long-term drought, which can help them confer physiological benefits to their adjacent trees.

“It is a wholesome and necessary thing for us to turn again to the earth and in the contemplation of her beauties to know the sense of wonder and humility.” —Rachel Carson

Nicole Spanier's CV

Nicole Spanier wears a light-weight jacket while standing on a dry strip of gravel-covered soil with arms outstretched. Flooded grassland surrounds her. Green-leafed trees are in the background. The sky is pale blue with clouds tinged in pinks and grays, suggesting a sunset.
